In June, 2017 I spent two weeks at an artist residency in Wyoming, Brush Creek Foundation for the Arts. There I began a series of mixed-media works that respond to ornamental and cultural motifs from around the world. The work is based on the late 19th century Grammar of Ornament, published by Owen Jones in 1868. My interest is in creating a body of work that celebrates the differences and beauty of our heritages, rather than the fear of the other that is being fanned by the current White House administration. I hope to eventually combine the works into an edition of artist books.
