CV

Judy Anderson is an artist, arts administrator and educator with over forty years of experience in the field. She is the founding director of PlatteForum, a Tier III non-profit arts center in Denver whose programming is based on the “artist residency” model, where artists apply to do a body of work side-by-side with youth. Rather than duplicating the efforts of other arts and education organizations in the community, PlatteForum’s programs build and connect with other organizations, creating a synergistic effect in the community. PlatteForum received the National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award and the Mayor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts. Anderson retired from PlatteForum in 2016.

As an artist and designer she has received numerous public art commissions (over $300,000) as lead artist, for collaborative works involving writers, video artists, musicians, performers, visual artists, architects and urban designers. Additionally she creates mixed media work and artist books that have been supported by grants and awards. In 2016 she was awarded the Denver Art Museum Gold Key Award given to an exemplary artist who has made a significant contribution to contemporary art in Colorado. Ms. Anderson has taught at universities in Colorado, California and, most recently, was Professor and Chair of the Division of Design, School of Art, at the University of Washington.

Ms. Anderson’s work has been exhibited in major galleries and museums in the country, has toured in exhibitions in Japan, England, United States, Europe and the Soviet Union, and is in the permanent collection at the Getty Museum, Walker Art Center, New York Public Library, and the Universities of Utah, Delaware, Washington and others. Her print and book designs have received numerous regional, national and international awards, and have been published in Print, CA, Idea, AIGA Graphic Design Annual(s), ID, Print Casebooks, Typography 4 and the New York Art Directors Annual. She was named a Woman in Design International, is past President of the University and College Designers Association (UCDA), and on the boards of GDEA (Graphic Design Education Association) and AIGA (American Institute of Graphic Artists) Seattle.
