Underneath My Pillow

I have a little hurt.
I have a little pain
underneath my pillow.
It helps to keep my sane.

At night when I lie down
I take my trouble out,
hold it belly close,
rub the wrinkles out.

This sorrow’s sweet. I need it.
And if it’s weak I feed it
on crumbs of anger stolen
from the table of the day.
